Client: Railtrack

IDP, with their considerable transportation experience, were invited to enter a limited Architectural Design Competition for the construction of a prestigious railway station serving Edinburgh’s main modern business park.  The competition was run jointly by Edinburgh City Council and New Edinburgh Ltd.

IDP won the design competition and were appointed as lead consultant and architect to take the project from feasibility stage through to construction.

The structure is built in a phased ‘modular’ fashion in order to facilitate the perceived intensification of use as other buildings in the park are developed.

The facility comprises three main elements :

Main pavilion

Platform waiting shelters

Bridge and lift structure

In future individual pods or kiosks will provide station facilities for Ticketing, Waiting and Retail/Coffee Outlet.

The framework of the lightweight semi-enclosed pavilion gives scale and a focal point to the park.
